Cold chain subsidies
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries is implementing a Central Sector Scheme of Cold Chain, Value Addition and Preservation Infrastructure for setting up of integrated cold chains to reduce post-harvest losses.
The scheme extends a maximum grant-in-aid of Rs.10 Crore per project.
In addition, National Horticulture Mission (NHM) and National Horticulture Board (NHB), under Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare are also providing assistance for setting up of cold storages under their respective schemes.
These schemes extend credit linked back ended subsidy of 35% of the project cost. The subsidy is 50% for North East, Hilly and Scheduled Areas.
So far, 303 cold chain projects have been approved under 2015-16, up from 138 in 2014-15 and 289 in 2013-14, according to government information. fii-news.com
