Coal target set
Coal India Ltd (CIL) has set a target to produce 598.61 million tonnes coal in 2016-17, up 11.1 per cent from 538.75 million tonnes produced in 2015-16.
Announcing the production target in parliament on July 25, Piyush Goyal, Minister of State for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy and Mines, said there was no shortage of coal supplies to power plants.
Coal import during 2015-16 declined to 199.9 million tonnes from 217.8 million tonnes in 2014-15.
The government has so far allocated 75 coal mines for specified end uses (31 Coal mines through e-auction & 44 coal mines through allotment) under the provisions of the Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Act, 2015, he told the house. fii-news.com
