SAAB’s Gripen – parts of which could be manufactured in India.
Sweden’s SAAB is in talks with Indian companies for collaboration in manufacturing aircraft parts, namely Gripen, one of which is being considered by the Defence sector.
Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven has discussed defence cooperation with the Indian economy during his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2016.
“There is an opportunity for us in the Make in India initiative,” said SAAB media relations manager Helene Linstrand.
“We are looking to put Gripen fighter in the Indian defence sector,” Linstrand told fii-news.com.
She highlighted the Sweden-Indian Prime Ministers agreement to will enhance dialogue on Defence in key areas. This includes an India-Sweden defence seminars in India in spring 2016 focusing on aviation, maritime security as well as combat training and simulation in the army domain.
In 2011, Saab India Technologies Pvt Ltd inaugurated the Saab India Technology Centre (SITC), a Research and Development Centre, in partnership with Mahindra Satyam in Hyderabad.
The centre supports the internal operational excellence and optimisation initiatives within Saab, while also supporting the company to expand in the Indian market. The Centre also undertakes Research and Development in aerospace, defence and urban innovation including civil security. fii-news.com
