Prime Minister calls for close collaboration between Govt-industry

The meeting was attended by CEOs, Heads and representatives of various organisations have expressed their commitment to contributing to India’s emergence as a globally competitive semiconductor and technology hub.

The Semiconductor industry stalwarts sat at a roundtable with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who as chair of event for extensive exchange of views, took note of their calls.

The CEOs appreciated the Government’s sustained efforts to develop India’s semiconductor capabilities, noting the progress made in manufacturing, design, infrastructure and talent development. They expressed confidence in the opportunities emerging under ISM 2.0 and in India’s potential to build capabilities across the semiconductor value chain, including manufacturing, R&D, advanced technologies and supporting industries.

The CEOs included leaders of SEMI, Micron, Infineon, Applied Materials, ASML, Merck, Tokyo Electron Ltd, FujiFilm, AMD, Intel, Tata Electronics, Lam Research, Rapidus, NXP, Foxconn, Semi-Conductor Devices, Advantest, Celesta Capital, CG Power, IBM Reserach among others.

Appreciating the leadership and support of the Prime Minister, they said the progress achieved in recent years has created a strong foundation for further industry participation.

During the meeting, Prime Minister emphasised the importance of close collaboration between the Government and the semiconductor industry in shaping India’s technology future. He highlighted India’s strong foundation of talent, technology adoption and infrastructure, and called for greater industry participation in skilling, innovation and emerging technologies such as AI and Quantum Computing. Referring to the target of training one crore people in AI, he said India’s talent pool, combined with the experience and capabilities of global industry leaders, can create significant opportunities.

The roundtable was held as part of the SEMICON India 2026 on 17 Sept in Delhi.

Addressing the CEOs, PM Modi underlined, “India should aspire to be among the early leaders in emerging technologies.” He noted the significant progress made in the semiconductor sector and said the ecosystem is now moving from foundational efforts to a phase of greater scale and opportunity.

He reiterated the Government’s commitment to a predictable and responsive policy environment, while emphasising that policies must evolve in line with technological advancements and industry requirements. He invited industry leaders to share suggestions on policy and administrative measures and assured them that their inputs would be given due consideration in further strengthening the sector. He encouraged industry leaders to actively participate in the next phase of India’s semiconductor growth.

The 3-day conference and exhibition, held from 17 to 19 September 2026, was organised on the theme ‘Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem’. It brought together global and Indian companies, policymakers, investors, researchers, start-ups, academic institutions and students from across the semiconductor and electronics value chain. The conference focused on advancing collaboration, investment, innovation and talent development in India. Parallel sessions covered advancements in the display industry, six Country Roundtables designed to facilitate collaboration and joint ventures, a forum on women’s leadership, among other sessions.

SEMICON India 2026 adopted a comprehensive value-chain approach, showcasing the journey from semiconductor materials, equipment and chip design to fabrication, advanced packaging, electronics and systems.

SEMICON India 2026 featured more than 600 participating companies and attracted around 50,000 visitors, with representatives from 52 countries, more than 400 executives and over 150 speakers. Fiinews.com
