INSEAD has built strong relations with Indian business and education ecosystem

India is pivotal in Singapore investor’s global strategy for growth for SATS group, having built its businesses in 14 cities in 16 locations over the past 25 years, and an ongoing commitment to invest up to Rs.4,500 crores at the Noida International Airport as part of its many investments in India’s airport logistics hub along with planned multi-modal transhipment centres across major metros.

“We are bullish on India,” Bob Chi, CEO of SATS Ltd’s Gateway Services for Asia Pacific, said in expressing confidence in the Indian market at a business forum on Thursday after the conclusion of the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable held this week in the city state.

“We are interested in building world-class, integrated, logistics, multimodal facilities to support the country’s manufacturing sector and every business in the economy,” Chi said at the India-Singapore Business Forum held at the INSEAD Asia Campus, which was attended by 300 investors, also attended by India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.

Elaborating, Chi said SATS wants to be part of the transhipment network being developed in India and play a pivotal role in the connection between airports and major ports including those across the country, namely Kolkata and Chennai where major port developments are in progress.

He also underlined the group’s commitment to stronger public-private partnerships that allows the government and industries to build world class infrastructure.

He appreciated the ISMR which is working on deeper collaboration between the two countries’ governments, that will truly build confidence and trust for more investments into India.

SATS employs 22,000 people under different verticals. It has set up a 37-year concession-based logistics hub at the newly inaugurated Jewar international airport at Noida in the centre of the country. Several new memorandum of understanding have been signed to further explore business opportunities, added Chi, assuring investors that based on diversified businesses emerging in the country, returns on investments are assured.

The ISMR, attended by four business-focused ministers from each side, concluded on Thursday with a range of new opportunities across renewable energy, nuclear cooperation, aviation, logistics, and market access collaborations.

“India has long been an important market and partner for INSEAD,” added a senior dean of the French-origin executive programme teaching institution which has one of the largest campuses in Singapore.

“We have built strong relationships across India’s business and education ecosystem by engaging extensively with Indian organisations and leaders through our programmes, including the INSEAD Leadership Programme for Senior Executives (ILPSE), as well as a range of customised learning and executive education programmes,” Professor Sameer Hasija, Dean of INSEAD Asia Campus, told PTI.

“India is also an important part of our student community, with a significant proportion of Indian students joining our MBA programme each year,” said Hasija, who has done his Ph.D. in Operations Management and M.S. in Management Science Methods from the Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester and his B.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.

“What is important for us is not simply establishing physical presence but finding innovative ways to connect India’s distinctive business insights and leadership talent with our global network – fostering a two-way exchange of ideas, expertise and perspectives that strengthens connections between India and the wider international business community,” said Sameer Hasija, also Dean of Executive Education.
