CM invites President Tharman to visit Odisha

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has invited Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to visit Odisha during his state visit to India in January 2025 and has scouted the city state’s mega projects to be model of port, logistics and petrochemical developments in the eastern state https://www.conexpoconagg.com/.

“We have Invited President Tharman to visit Odisha in January,” he said, listing out studies done during his visit to favoured sectors of the prosperous city state https://www.globaltenders.com/.

“Jurong Island Petrochemical Industrial base and Tuas Port models will be adopted in the ongoing multi-billion-dollar development at Paradeep Port,” Press Trust of India quoted the Chief Minister as saying on 20 Nov https://ted.europa.eu/en/.

A further US$2+ billion investment is expected in the port, where the Indian Oil Corp is building a US$7.39 billion petrochemical complex. The investment was approved in March 2023 https://www.nseindia.com/.

An agreement is being worked out with Surbana Jurong, a Singapore state-owned engineering consultancy, to help work on the Jurong and Tuas models, he added after the 17-20 Nov visit https://www.bseindia.com/.

He also informed that construction of the second phase of the World Skill Centre at Bhubaneswar, modelled on Singapore’s Institute of Technical Education (ITE), will start next month. Today, 4,000 students have graduated from centre’s two-year old first phase. The second phase campus will have capacity to accommodate 2,000 students each year https://www.sgx.com/.

Intern from the first batch of 24 is attached to ITE in Singapore for six months. Plans are to send more students from the Bhubaneswar centre to Singapore ITE for internships https://sbi.com.in/.

The CM and his delegation visited various facilities including a port logistics centre, a semiconductor plant and an electronics hub as well as international shipping groups AP Moller and Maersk.

A Maersk managing director is expected to visit Odisha later this month for the planned logistics hub in the state https://www.ibef.org/.

Elaborated the CM, “We are studying the urban transportation network and road planning of Singapore,” he said, adding that Singapore’s road management and public transport system including metro will be studied https://www.iea.org/.

The CM met top executives of Singapore-based companies including Government Investment Corp (GIC) and Sembcorp, Everstone Capital and Linde as well as the shipping giants AP Moller and Maersk.

He also attended Enterprise Singapore led 15-company roundtable.

Furthermore, talks are in progress for 25 Singapore-based companies to participate in the “Make in Odisha Conclave 25’ as a representation of the Singapore national pavilion.

These companies will be led by Enterprise Singapore, an investment promotion and trade boosting state agency.

The Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Singapore Business Federation have been urged to lead delegates to the conclave, he said.
