PUB-CII Water Institute to conduct joint training on managing water resources

Singapore’s Public Utilities Board is set to share expertise and start training the Indian water sector stakeholders on resource management through bilateral arrangement with the CII-Triveni Water Institute.

The PUB, a water agency of the island state http://mewr.gov.sg , and the Water Institute of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) have started discussing arrangements for joint training programmes.

The discussions were initiated during the Singapore International Water Week held 18-22 June https://www.siww.com.sg/home .

The island state has secured supply of water such as developing harvesting rain water network, desalination systems and recycling. This has reduced dependency on imported water https://water.org/ through pipelines from neighbour Malaysia.

“We need to have the industry and municipalities ready to deal with climate extremes https://www.climate.gov/ to make sure that water continue to remain in supply even during times of drought and floods,” said Dr Kapil Kumar Narula, Executive Director and CEO CII-Triveni Water Institute https://www.cii.in/ .

“We are also looking at emerging new contaminants from industries such as micro plastics in water and how to manage it,” he said at the India Business Forum held as part of the SIWW https://ficci.in/api/home .

“We hope to see more collaboration on these areas and industrial technologies https://www.pmindia.gov.in/en/ ,” he said.

Meanwhile, water resource management is going to be on the agenda of ministerial level meetings between Singapore and India https://www.bseindia.com/ , the High Commissioner of India to the city state, Dr Shilpak Ambule, said at the opening of the Forum https://www.hcisingapore.gov.in/ .

“We very much like to make the issue of water resources one of the important pillars of cooperation between our two countries,” said the envoy, hoping to follow up on two to three concrete outcomes from the business gatherings at the SIWW https://www.mea.gov.in/ .

Singapore and India have a series of government-to-government meetings including a ministerial roundtable on how the two sides can leverage on expertise and market potential in further progressing business and industrial cooperations https://www.nseindia.com/ .

While Singapore has no natural resources and depends on commerce and banking as well as the latest tech-driven expertise, India’s resources are stressed for yet to be deployed modern technologies and world-scale engineering experiences, industry experts said at the SIWW.

Given their close cooperations on many fronts, the two countries have the potential to develop business and operational models for applications in emerging markets, said the experts https://sbi.com.in/ .

Singapore, feeling its economic progress could be restricted due to manpower constrain, has often expressed strong interests in getting engineers from India https://www.aiu.ac.in/ , first for their national projects, and then on to develop world-class platforms and solutions for infrastructure projects in developing countries, including India where robust industrial programmes would continue into the next decade or so, said the experts https://www.ieindia.org/webui/iei-home.aspx .

Skill manpower constrain is felt around the world and Singapore has the advantage with its close bilateral and working relationships with India and Indian institutions, the experts believe. fiinews.com
