Around 600 crore digital transactions took place in India in Oct, says Minister

Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal wants to see quality and professionalism demonstrated at the Indian International Trade Fairs (IITFs), calling for hosting of such events at national and state levels to promote industry, entrepreneurship as well as local arts and crafts.

Addressing the 41st Edition of India International Trade Fair (IITF) in New Delhi on 14 Nov 2022, he said, “To further strengthen the fair, we must ensure that only high-quality products are sold and that exhibitors must compulsorily be quality certified.

The IITF is a powerful platform to showcase the diversity of the nation, he stressed, suggesting that efforts could be made to drive all financial transactions at the fair to digital platforms.

He pointed out that India’s fintech sector was one of the strongest in the world, supporting digital platforms.

Around 600 crore digital transactions took place in India last month, the Minister informed delegates and industry leaders at the Delhi trade fair.

Conducting virtual fairs could be considered by going digital and wider use of technologies, he added.

Goyal proposed that Indian Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO) and IIFT consider jointly developing some courses in the physical, hybrid or virtual mode, to prepare professionals who will help make such fairs cutting edge, post-modern and much more attractive to businesses and common people.

Nearly 2,500 exhibitors participated in the 41st edition of IITF. It also had overseas exhibitors from 12 countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Belarus, Iran, Nepal, Thailand, Turkey, the UAE and UK. fiinews.com
