India should produce cybersecurity engineers to detect-protect digital economy

Given the fast-pace digitalization taking place across the country and the increasing threat of cyberattacks, the Indian Government must invest heavily on preparing engineers to detect and protect the massive amount of data.

India produces a lot of engineers but they are not specifically trained to handle cyberattacks, according to Nilesh Jain, Vice President for South East Asia and India at the Japanese-origin Trend Micro.

Hence, he has called on the Government to invest 50% of the annual education budget to build a large pool of engineers to detect threats to the fast digitization network spreading across the country.

He suggested that the Government should lead to build cybersecurity awareness programmes, covering big businesses, small enterprises, Government departments and citizens.

Speaking at the Singapore International Cyber Week 2022, held 18-20 Oct, Jain acknowledged the Government-set pace for promoting and accelerating digitalization of the entire economy.

Indian universities and technical institutions should focus on producing cybersecurity engineers as cases of frauds are spreading fast and across all segments of the economy.

India is listed among the top 10 countries open to increasing cyberattacks, and among top five countries with increasing ransomware attacks after the United States and some Western countries.

Managing threat to the technologies is need of the hour, and India has the right technologists to handle a wide range of threats – cyberattacks, ransomware and much more that would be emerging with the arrival of advanced technologies, he said. fiinews.com
