IAC completion has created growth in indigenous design and construction capabilities
The fourth phase of Sea Trials for Indian Aircraft Carrier (IAC) Vikrant has been completed on 10 July 2022, during which integrated trials of majority of equipment and systems onboard including some of the Aviation Facilities Complex equipment were undertaken.
The Indigenously designed and built Aircraft Carrier by Indian Navy and Cochin Shipyard Ltd is to be delivered end July 2022, followed by commissioning of the ship in Aug 2022.
It is built with more than 76% indigenous content.
“This (project) has led to growth in indigenous design and construction capabilities, besides development of large number of ancillary industries, with employment opportunities for over 2,000 CSL personnel and about 12,000 employees in ancillary industries,” said the Ministry of Defence.
Maiden Sea Trials of IAC were completed in Aug 2021. This was followed by second and third phases of Sea Trials in October 2021 and January 2022 respectively.
During these three phases of Sea Trials, endurance testing of propulsion machinery, electrical & electronic suites, deck machinery, lifesaving appliances, ship’s Navigation and Communication systems was undertaken, said the Ministry on 10 July 2022. fiinews.com
