Russia may build in India the second nuclear power plant of Generation “3+” generation similar to power unit No. 6 of Novovoronezhskaya Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) launched on August 5, President of ASE Group (engineering arm of Rosatom nuclear corporation) Valery Limarenko told Russian news agency, TASS, on August 10, 2016.
“Russian atomists are the first across the globe to include Generation “3+” power unit into the national power grid. This is a milestone not merely for the nuclear sector but for the country at large,” Limarenko was quoted as saying.
“We are ready and plan to replicate our success; in particular, we are discussing construction of Generation “3+” power units on a new site in India with our Indian colleagues,” he added.
The design capacity of new power units is at the discussion stage, ASE said.
The new NPP to be built according to the Russian design in India may receive Generation “3+” reactors, Indian experts said earlier after launch of the first reactor in Russia.
Russia and India are cooperating in the nuclear energy sphere for many years. The first unit of the Indian nuclear power plant is already in service. India’s regulator is currently expected to authorize start of the second power unit at Kudankulam NPP.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said five more units, each of 1,000 MW, were planned at Kudankulum, the first unit of which was dedicated to India-Russia relations on August 10, 2016.
“Its successful completion is not just another fine example of the strength of our special and privileged Strategic Partnership. It is also a celebration of our abiding friendship,” said Modi who held dedication ceremony with Russian president Vladimir Putin. fii-news.com
