Non-Interlocking completed at Noapara carshed

A 1.24 MWp rooftop Solar Power Plant has been installed on the roofs of the two buildings of Central Park Depot of East-West Metro which will save Rs.45 lakhs (approx) per annum in energy cost for Kolkata Metro.

Spread over 19,173 sq m rooftop area, the plant has been dedicated to the service of the Nation on 27 Aug 2021, said the Ministry of Railways on 3 Jan 2022 in an update on infrastructure development for the Kolkata Metro in 2021.

Kolkata Metro also completed the Non-Interlocking (NI) work of Noapara carshed during the year. This NI work involved modification of the Electronic Interlocking System at Noapara which is linked to all routes, points, signals and track sections in the carshed.

This modification has greatly improved the operational flexibilities of movement of rakes to and from Noapara and thereby increased performance parameters of train running of Metro Railway.

Sealdah station of East-West Metro is all set to be commissioned very soon, said the Ministry.

The first trial run from Phoolbagan to Sealdah corridor was successfully completed in 2021.

Kolkata Metro has witnessed an unprecedented growth in development of infrastructure and capacity expansion of its network during 2021.

Despite Covid challenges, Kolkata Metro continued to lay foundation for future development and next level of traveling experience for commuters, added the Ministry.

Among other 2021 milestones, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the extended stretch of North-South Metro from Noapara to Dakshineswar (4.1 Km length) on 22 Feb 2021 and flagged off the first Metro on this stretch.

In his speech then, the Prime Minister said, “This extension would not only help the people of Kolkata but also of Hooghly, Howrah and North 24 Paraganas to get the benefit of Metro services”. fiinews.com
