DFC projects capex up 21% on the year

Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has called for accelerated pace of work on the Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFCs), the 2020-21 capital expenditure of which has increased by a hefty 21% y-o-y.

In first 10 months of financial year 2020-2021, capital expenditure on the DFCs was Rs.8,201 crore, up from Rs.6,783 crore in the previous year, noted Goyal at a review of the two projects being implemented by the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation India Limited (DFCCIL).

Goyal directed the DFFCIL management team and the contractors to take all possible steps to speed up the pace of works on all the sections of the Western DFC (1,504 route km) and Eastern DFC (1,856 route km).

The review meeting discussed progress of each individual section and instructions were given to ensure smooth progress by resolving all hindrances, said Ministry of Railways on 15 Feb 2021.

The dedicated freight corridors are to provide exclusive movement on fast speeds for goods trains. More than 1,000 trains have been running on the 657-km section of the rail-routes completed in 2020-21.

The Eastern Corridor starting from Sahnewal near Ludhiana (Punjab) will pass through the states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand to terminate at Dankuni in West Bengal. The Western Corridor connecting Dadri in Uttar Pradesh to Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) in Mumbai will traverse through the states of UP, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra. #project #contract #capex #investment /fiinews.com
