PM highlights waterway benefits

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Inland Waterways is being extended to the North East region, having commissioned from Haldia to Banaras which will benefit the people as it reduces the cost of Logistics.

“Planet also benefits from these waterways, because it burns less fuel. And we should not forget that it will reduce the import of petrol and diesel and reduce traffic on the road,” said Modi in his address to the Indian Chamber of Commerce on 11 June 2020.

He applauded the Chamber’s 95 years of service to the nation with a contribution to the development of East India and North East, especially to the manufacturing units there.

“Goods will be cheaper and will reach the destination via the shortest route quickly. Both the buyer and the seller have profit in it,” he said.

But still, there has been a major wish in the mind of every Indian, he noted and expressed his wish to see India self-sufficient in the medical equipment field, defense manufacturing and self-reliance in the coal and minerals sector.

Further elaborating, the Prime Minister said he wants India to be self-reliant in edible oil and fertilizers, electronic manufacturing and self-sufficient in Solar Panels, Batteries and Chip Manufacturing.

The Prime Minister also underlined the need for the aviation sector to be self-reliant.

Touching on enterprises, Modi said the expanding the scope of the definition of MSMEs or arranging thousands of crores of special funds to support MSMEs, are becoming a reality today.

“Be it the decision related to IBC, the decision to decriminalize minor mistakes or the formation of Project Development Cells for Fast Tracking of Investment, many such works have already been done,” he assured.

Now to make various sectors more competitive, especially Coal and Mining, the industry must come forward to take full advantage of the reforms that have been announced, he stressed. fiinews.com
