Russian Helicopters will start production of its Ka-226Ts military choppers in India next year, going by the progress of its agreements.

“The parties, including local partners, are negotiating areas of responsibility, conceptual design of the helicopter and detailed contract terms for manufacturing 200 Ka-226Ts helicopters,” deputy CEO Igor Chechikov said in Moscow.

A list of companies for the project is being formed from both the Indian and the Russian sides.

“We plan to complete all organizational parts of the project by the end of 2016,” Chechikov said in an interview with RIA Novosti, a local news agency.

“After that we will sign an agreement and launch the execution stage of the project – the helicopter production part.

Russian Helicopters’ future contract includes after-sale service for the choppers.

The company also expect to sign a new contract for delivery of 48 Mi-17V-5 helicopters to India before the end of this year.

“We plan to reach final arrangement with the Indian partners before the end of 2016,” he said.

The contract will be fulfilled through Rosoboronexport.

Considering the size of Russian helicopter fleet in India and the need to perform maintenance and transfer expertise with regard to control and diagnostics to local partners, it is necessary to create a training center for flight and technical staff, he elaborated.

“Due to a number of large-scale Russian-Indian projects, we are also looking into best options and conditions for creation of such a training center,” said Chechikov.
