Swiss rail technology showcased
Switzerland has stressed the need for a continuous dialogue with India to advance the common interests in finding innovative solutions to technological issues in Railways.
This was underlined by Simonetta Sommaruga, Federal Councilor and Head of the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy & Communications during meeting with Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on 21 Oct 2019 in Delhi.
The meeting was a follow up on the 1st meeting of Joint Working Group (JWG) held between two sides after the MoU for cooperation in rail sector was signed in 2017.
Sommaruga led a delegation and the representatives of Swiss companies working in the area of Rail Transport to showcase which showcased their expertise and new products to Indian railway executives.
The Indian side was led by the Minister of Railways and Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal at these high-level delegation level meetings. The Swiss delegation comprising Swiss Officials from Department of Transport and representatives from Swiss companies was led by Her Excellency
Goyal impressed upon the visitors on the advantage of ‘Make-in-India’ initiatives to enable Swiss products to be competitive in India and use it as a platform for the global market.
Goyal directed Railway Board to clear issues raised by Swiss companies such as expeditious clearance and development of new products.
The discussions in Joint Working Group also focused on Freight and Passenger Cars, Railway Electrification Equipment, Multimodal transport and tunneling technology.
It was also agreed during the meeting that a regular system of follow-up will be institutionalized to monitor the progress of interactions and implementation in time bound manner. fiinews.com
