Medigadda Barrage completed in 24 months
The Power business of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is to set up a 2×660 MW ultra-supercritical power plant in Buxar district of Bihar under a mega engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) order from SJVN Thermal Private Limited.
The scope of work for L&T includes Design, Engineering, Manufacture, Procurement, Supply, Construction, Erection, Testing & Commissioning of Buxar Thermal Power Project (2×660 MW), on turnkey basis.
The contract will cover steam generator, steam turbine generator, electrostatic precipitator, NOx control system, flue gas desulphurization (FGD) system and complete balance of plant (BoP)systems including raw water intake system, make-up water system, coal & ash handling system,
ash dyke, complete E&I system including switchyard and complete civil, structural and architectural works.
Commenting on the order, L&T Power CEO & Managing Director Shailendra Roy said, “Knowing the importance of this project for the state of Bihar, L&T shall aim to set new benchmarks in completion schedule, quality, safety and equipment/system performance.
“With majority of the equipment including boilers, turbines, generators, etc, being made locally in our world class manufacturing facilities at Hazira,” he said in a release on 24 June 2019.
Meanwhile, L&T Construction, the construction arm of Larsen & Toubro, has completed the iconic Medigadda Barrage project in just 24 months.
The megastructure, part of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation project, will be a major part of the vital irrigation infrastructure to lift an estimated 180 TMC of water per year from the river Godavari to the Sripada Yellampalli Project to provide drinking water, facilitate irrigation and meet industrial needs in 23 districts of Telangana.
The project was executed on a fast track mode involving a 1.6 km long barrage across the Godavari equipped with 85 gates, piers and associated guide bunds and flood bunds of 18.03 km on either side of the barrage.
