Technology highlighted at Lexus factory
The importance of Surat, the world’s largest diamond cutting centre, was highlighted in global markets when the industry hosted the Rapaport Trade Mission’s 36 international diamantaires and jewelers from the US, Singapore, UK, Lebanon, Japan, Israel, Austria, Australia, Italy and China.
The visitors were hosted by the Surat Diamond Association, Chamber of Commerce and representatives of the Surat diamond community.
The visitors were provided an educational experience with visits to the extremely high-tech Lexus factory as well as other large factories, said the Mission in a release on 15 May 2019.
Significant emphasis was placed on developing relationships with small and medium size cutters.
Participants visited the Mahidharpura market and had an opportunity to directly interact with Surat’s large community of small to medium size cutters and dealers.

We were delighted to host our first trade mission to Surat which gave participants an unprecedented opportunity to directly interact with the entire Surat diamond community including small, medium and large-scale companies,” said Martin Rapaport, Chairman of the Rapaport Group.
“The trip encouraged the development of mutually beneficial relationships based on a greater understanding of Surat’s important role in the diamond industry. We look forward to holding additional trade missions in 2020,” he said.
Meanwhile, members of the Surat and Sierra Leone Trade Missions will be meeting in Las Vegas during the JCK Show from 31 May to 3 June 2019.
