Foreign car manufacturers have launched new Made in India models in the lucrative Indian market, competing on prices and latest in technologies.

German car manufacturer Volkswagen announced a special ‘Ameo Corporate edition’ catering to corporate and business customers on 11 April 2019.

The Ameo Corporate edition will be available at a special introductory price starting at Rs.6.69 Lakh for the MPI Highline Plus MT variant, while the 1.5 TDI Highline Plus MT will come at Rs.7.99 Lakh.

“Exclusively designed for the Indian market, the Ameo caters to the young generation of entrepreneurs, businesses and individuals that are full of energy, focused and passionate about their work. The Ameo Corporate edition equipped with segment leading features and safety elements and is built for those who are , modest and allow their work to speak for themselves,” Volkswagen India said in a statement.

“The made-for-India and made-in-India Ameo is carline specifically developed for the Indian market. It’s a true testament of German engineering in a compact sedan filled with segment leading features. Through the Ameo Corporate edition, we aim to offer globally renowned standards of safety, quality and fun-to-drive experience to all our customers,” Steffen Knapp, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars.

Luxury sports car maker Porsche launched 911 range in India with price starting at Rs.1.82 crore (ex-showroom) on 10 April 2019.

The 911 Carrera S is priced at Rs.1.82 crore while the 911 Carrera S Cabriolet is tagged at Rs.1.99 crore.

The rear-engine model range has been redesigned to have a muscular look.

“Just like the first generation, the latest 911 is a sports car for the new era. Our icon has once again evolved and is now more powerful, more emotional, and more efficient than its predecessors,” Porsche India Director Pavan Shetty said.

The eighth generation maintains the 911’s status as a pure driver’s car that also offers everyday usability and unique design, he added.

The two variants now come with 450 HP of power which is 30 HP more than as compared to the previous version.

German luxury carmaker BMW has launched a new diesel variant of 6 Series Gran Turismo sedan in India, priced at Rs.63.9 lakh (ex-showroom) on 9 April 2019.

Locally produced at the company’s plant in Chennai, the BMW 620d Gran Turismo diversifies the model’s diesel portfolio.

The company is already selling two diesel variants and one petrol trim of the model.

“With the launch of the first-ever BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo, we created a new segment in the Indian luxury car market,” BMW Group India President Hans-Christian Baertels said in a statement.

The variant features an exceptionally efficient entry-level diesel engine which further strengthens the portfolio of the model, he added.

The vehicle comes with a two-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that enables it to accelerate from 0-100 km/hr in just 7.9 seconds.

BMW launched a new version of Z4 Roadster in India, priced at Rs.64.9 lakh (ex-showroom) on 8 April 2019.

The model comes in two engine variants — the BMW Z4 sDrive20i and the BMW M Performance model, the BMW Z4 M40i, the company said in a statement.

The Z4 sDrive20i variant is priced at Rs 64.9 lakh, while the Z4 M40i trim is tagged at Rs 78.9 lakh.

“The all-new BMW Z4 Roadster is our brand-new addition to the company’s long history of engrossing roadsters. With dynamic proportions, emotional design and thrilling sportiness, this open-top two-seater takes the classic roadster into the world of tomorrow,” Baertels said.

Jaguar Land Rover India (JLR) said it has commenced bookings for locally manufactured Range Rover Velar which is priced at Rs.72.47 lakh (ex-showroom).

The model comes with both petrol and diesel powertrains, priced similarly at Rs.72.47 lakh.

“We continue to focus on providing the best of British design, luxury and technology at highly competitive prices and we are sure that local manufacturing of the Range Rover Velar will make it even more desirable,” JLR India President & Managing Director Rohit Suri said in a statement on 9 April 2019.

The local manufacturing of the model also reaffirms the company’s commitment to the Indian market, he added.

Deliveries of the model will begin early in May 2019.

Among others, India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said its Alto K10 has been upgraded with additional safety features, thereby leading to increase in price of the hatchback effective from 11 April 2019.

“ALTO K10 is now compliant to AIS-145 Safety Norms,” MSI said in a BSE filing.

As part of these additional Safety features, ALTO K10 is now equipped with ABS with EBD, Driver Airbag, Reverse Parking Sensor, Speed Alert System, Driver and Co-Driver Seat belt Reminder.

“This will result in price increase in all variants of Alto K 10 model. Depending on features introduced across variants, the Ex-showroom price in Delhi and NCR region shall vary from Rs.365,843 to Rs.444,777 and in Rest of lndia from Rs.375,843 to Rs.454,777” MSI said. fiinews.com
