Singapore is sharing its expertise in urban planning to help develop two new townships in Jodhpur and Udaipur, Rajasthan, said Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam who visited the desert state November 17-20, 2015.

Speaking after attending the “Resurgent Rajasthan Partnership Summit” in Jaipur, he said, “On urban planning, we are happy to share our experience of better housing, which is one of the tangible and visible signs of progress. Housing is probably our signature success, with 90 per cent of (Singaporeans) owning homes.”

A memorandum of understanding for the fresh collaboration between Singapore and the Indian state was signed on November 19, 2015 at the summit, in which Singapore participated as a partner country.

Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE) and Rajasthan Housing Board agreed to jointly come up with a concept plan for two townships in Jodhpur and Udaipur. This includes housing solutions and masterplanning, according to a report by The Straits Times.

Shanmugam, who is also the Law Minister, disclosed that budget carrier Scoot is looking to introduce flights between Jaipur and Singapore.

Singapore has a number of collaborations with Rajasthan, including the water management and conservation as well as a programme to train 100 government officials in water management and the setting up of a skills centre.

Singapore’s ITE Education Services (Itees) is working with Rajasthan officials to develop the Centre of Excellence for Tourism Training in Udaipur, a tourist hub, according to the Singapore daily report.

Rajasthan has secured US$65 billion worth of investments, according to its officials. The summit was second in the series. fii-news.com
