Mandaviya updates parliament on projects

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the project for construction of 6.930 km long 4-lane bridge at Phulaut in Bihar.

The CCEA also cleared the decks for rehabilitation and up-gradation of existing Birpur-Bihpur section of National Highway-106 from 106-km to 136-km to ‘2 lane with Paved Shoulder’ in Bihar at a capital cost of Rs.1,478.40 crore.

The construction period for the project is three years and likely to be completed by June 2022.

There is a 10 km long missing link between Phulaut and Bihpur on NH-106 and falling in the catchment area of Kosi River. As such, presently, the traffic from Phulaut to Bihpur requires to take a detour of approximate 72 km.

On construction of the new 4-Lane Bridge across river Kosi under this project, distance between Phulaut and Bihpur shall be reduced to only 12 km.

The bridge construction will fill the existing 30-km long gap between Udakishanganj and Bihpur of National Highway Number 106 in Bihar, which will provide through connectivity between Nepal/North Bihar/East-West Corridor (passing through NH- 57) and South Bihar/Jharkhand/Golden Quadrilateral (passing through NH -2), besides full utilization of National Highway Number-31, according to a CCEA release on 9 Aug 2018.

Panipat-Khatima Highway
The Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Mansukh L Mandaviya, has told parliament that the stretch of road connecting Panipat-Shamli-Muzaffarnagar-Bijnor-Nagina has been declared as National Highway (NH) No. 709AD.

Ongoing project for four laning of Nagina–Kashipur Section of NH is scheduled for completion by April 2020.

Four-laning of Kashipur to Sitarganj (except Gadarpur bypass) and widening totwo lane with paved shoulder of Sitarganj to Tanakpur via Khatima is already completed.

Ongoing work for Construction of Gadarpur bypass is targeted for completion by December 2018.

Mandaviya also updated the house on projects in Kerala.

Nineteen projects costing Rs.3,440 Cr were sanctioned in the State during Financial Year 2017-18.

Two bypass projects to Alappuzha and Kollam on NH-47 (new NH.66) sanctioned during 2013-14 are under construction.

The development of Kollam Thirumangalam stretch of NH 208 (new NH 744) has been included under Bharatmala Pariyojana.

Strengthening of existing road from 0/00-km to 20/000-km (Kollam to Ambalathumkala) of NH 744 was sanctioned by Ministry for Rs.22.9 crore during 2017-18 to keep this Highway in traffic-worthy condition.

Project preparation for development of Kollam-Theni of NH 220 (new NH 183) and Bharanikkavu-Vandiperiyar road of NH 183A is done through State PWD.

Two works of strengthening of 31 km of NH 183A, costing Rs.30.9 crore, were sanctioned by Ministry during 2017-18 to keep this Highway in traffic-worthy condition.

Mandaviya said 5,521.50-km of projects were started during last five years from 2013-14 to 2017-18 by Central Government Rajasthan out of which 3,528.47-km length of NHs have been completed in Rajasthan.

During last five years total Rs.20,939.89 crore was spent on NH projects in the state.

Around 1,837 projects covering 61,164-km and costing Rs.6,45,199 crore are under development across the country.

About 295 major projects including bridges & roads are likely to get completed by March 2019. fiinews.com
