India builds capacities for urban rejuvenation
India will tap into the expertise of Singapore agencies in areas of urban development and management and help in urban rejuvenation mission under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The MoU, approved by the Indian Cabinet on 27 June 2018, capacity building programme will be undertaken in the field of planning, focusing on areas of urban planning, water and waste water management, solid waste management, Intelligent Transport System and public financing such as Public Private Partnerships.
The MoU was signed in Singapore on 31 May 2018 during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit.
The MoU will also facilitate to build capacities in National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) and equip the officials with skills related to evidence-based policy writing and evaluation among others.
This will help NITI to play the newly assigned role of a Think Tank in a more effective manner.
This MOU would lead to dissemination of knowledge of best practices, build capacities and provide hand holding support to various government agencies at the State and Central levels.
The officials from Central Government, State Government and Urban Local Bodies would directly benefit by enhancing their knowledge base which would ultimately get manifested in the improvement in the urban civic amenities, said a Public Information Bureau release. fiinews.com
