Mishra held talks with refineries at Singapore show
Hindustan Platinum, ranked one of the top refining service companies in the world, is exploring potential of importing “Spent Catalysts” from Middle East, Asian and European Oil and Petroleum refineries, a major move to ensure long-term essential material supplies to cope with surging demand for precious metals as India continues massive industrial development programmes.
“We will hold talks on buying “Spent Catalysts” from refiners in Belgium, Germany, Italy and Poland among others during our participation in the European Refining Technology Conference in Cannes in November,” Hindustan Platinum senior vice president for refining services, Dr Rajeev Mishra, said on Thursday. The conference in Cannes is scheduled for Nov 17 to 20, 2025.
“We must have a global network of suppliers to further refine the spent catalyst, extracting platinum, palladium, silver and other metals which are vital of our industries including electronics, electricals, textile, fibre, glass, Nitric Acid and jewelry,” PTI quoted Mishra as saying on the sidelines of Asian Refining Technology Conference held in conjunction with the Singapore International Energy Week during 27-31 Oct 2025.
During the Singapore energy week, held Oct 27-31, Dr Mishra and his team held intensive talks with Oil and Petroleum refiners for procuring spent catalysts supply from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, among others.
Hindustan Platinum traditional suppliers are Indian refiners as well as major refinery operators in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and the United Arab Emirates.
Among new products, Hindustan Platinum is also in the process of venturing into renewable energy especially in solar power field, he said, adding that plant related infrastructure development is ongoing as demand for precious metals has been rising from Indian industries.
“We are now at the peak of production of precious metals,” said Dr Mishra, adding the platinum, palladium. silver capacities are being enhanced.
“There is no stopping of production processes,” added Dr Mishra who is on the road with his team and would be tapping US-based refiners for sourcing spent catalysts during the International Precious Metal Institute Conference in the US in June next year.
Established in 1961, Hindustan Platinum carries a legacy of trust in precious metal refining, catalysts and tailored solutions, serving global industries including ABB from the Puerto Rico, US-based plant. The US plant was acquired by Hindustan Platinum in 2019 from ABB.
The Hindustan Platinum plant refines and recovers platinum, palladium, silver, gold, rhodium, ruthenium and iridium for industries across more than 50 countries, supporting manufacturing of catalysts and salts for pharma, speciality and agri chemicals. engineered products and gauzes for nitro technologies to total production processes.
