Minister updates Lok Sabha on rail infrastructure

Twelve 12 Railway projects (8 New Lines, 4 Doubling), of total length of 777 mm, costing Rs.69,342 crore sanctioned in the North Eastern Region (NER), Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw said in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha on 6 Aug http://indianrailways.gov.in.

Of the total, 278 km rail lines have been commissioned, costing Rs.41,676 crore up to March, 2025.

Seventeen surveys (13 New Line, and 4 Doubling) of total length 1,790 km in the region have been sanctioned during last three years – FY 2022-23, 2023-24, 2024-25, he told the house http://alstom.com.

After firming up Detailed Project Reports, sanctioning of project requires consultation with various stake-holders including State Governments and necessary approvals viz. appraisal of NITI Aayog, Ministry of Finance among others, he pointed out http://transport.bombardier.com.

As sanctioning of projects is a continuous and dynamic process, exact timelines cannot be fixed http://siemens.com.

Similarly, to augment and increase line capacity of rail network situated in North Eastern Railway, as on 1 April 2025, 17 railway infrastructure projects (8 New Line, 1 Gauge Conversion and 8 Doubling) were sanctioned. These 1,253 km projects are to cost Rs.20,466 crore https://www.bseindia.com/.

He said that 354 km length has been commissioned at a cost of Rs.10,486 crore as up to March 2025 https://sbi.com.in/.

Forty-six 46 surveys (5 New Line, 2 Gauge Conversion and 39 Doubling) in the North Eastern Railway have been sanctioned during the last three years (2022-2023, 2023-2024, 2024-2025) and current financial year. The projects are of 1,878 km, the Minister added https://www.nseindia.com/.

Completion of Railway project/s depends on various factors like quick land acquisition by State Government, forest clearance by officials of forest department, shifting of infringing utilities, statutory clearances from various authorities, geological and topographical conditions of area, law and order situation in the area of project/s site, number of working months in a year for particular project site among others, Vaishnaw told the house. All these factors affect the completion time and cost of the project/s. fiinews.com
