PM attends Rio de Janeiro summit
BRICS member countries have assured India of full support for its Chairship in 2026 and the holding of the XVIII BRICS Summit during a meeting held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 6 to 7 July 2025.
The support came after the XVII BRICS Summit held under the theme: “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for a More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance”.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the summit during his visit to Brazil.
The meeting welcomed Indonesia as a BRICS member, as well as the Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Nigeria, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Uganda, and the Uzbekistan as BRICS partner countries of the grouping which was has Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa as members working for the good of global communities.
The group underlined significance of the adoption of the BRICS Leaders’ Framework Declaration on Climate Finance and of the BRICS Leaders’ Statement on the Global Governance of Artificial Intelligence, as well as endorse the launch of the BRICS Partnership for the Elimination of Socially Determined Diseases.
