Plant designed to produce 36m units per month
The Cabinet has approved the establishment of one more semiconductor project, a Rs.3,700 crore plant near Jewar airport in Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority or YEIDA by a joint venture of India’s HCL Group and Foxconn of Taiwan.
The plant will have around Rs.1,500 crore coming from the government’s kitty as part of incentives under the chip manufacturing scheme of the Rs.76,000 crore India Semiconductor Mission.
HCL has a long history of developing and manufacturing hardware. Foxconn is a global major in electronics manufacturing, said the Cabinet on giving approval on 14 May.
This JV plant will manufacture display driver chips for mobile phones, laptops, automobiles, PCs, and other devices that have display. The plant is designed for 20,000 wafers per month and output capacity is 36 million units per month https://www.nseindia.com/.
This is the sixth semiconductor plant with five others in advanced stages of construction. Four plants, including a fab and three assembly units, are in Gujarat and one assembly and packaging plant is in Assam https://www.bseindia.com/.
Semiconductor industry is now shaping up across the country, said the Cabinet in a release. “World class design facilities have come up in many states across the country. State governments are vigorously pursuing the design firms,” the Cabinet added.
As the country moves forward in semiconductor journey, the eco system partners have also established their facilities in India. Applied Materials and Lam Research are two of the largest equipment manufacturers with presence in India now. Merck, Linde, Air Liquide, Inox, and many other gas and chemical suppliers are gearing up for growth of the Indian semiconductor industry https://www.conexpoconagg.com/.
Demand for semiconductor is increasing with the rapid growth of laptop, mobile phone, server, medical device, power electronics, defence equipment, and consumer electronics manufacturing in the country https://www.commerce.gov.in/.
Students and entrepreneurs in 270 academic institutions and 70 startups are working on world class latest design technologies for developing new products, noted the Cabinet. Fiinews.com
