India plans 900 KTA Green Hydrogen capacity by 2030
India’s petroleum refining capacity is likely to increase from 256.8 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) from now to 309.50 MMTPA by 2028 as processing plant capacity is being expanded by 11 refineries owned by Public Sector Units (PSUs) as well as setting up of a new grassroot refinery opec.org .
The country has 22 operating refineries with a total refining capacity of 256.8 MMTPA, three of which are in private sector, according to a yearend 2024 sectorial review by Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
Separately, the refineries are expected to issue approximately 128 KTPA tenders for green hydrogen based on the outcome of the ongoing processing of bids.
The refineries are also expected to issue tenders for 42 KTPA capacity by March 2025.
The Oil & Gas PSUs have planned for 900 KTPA Green Hydrogen Projects, based on EPC & BOO mode, by 2030, said the ministry https://gh2.org/.
The Government has set an indicative target of 1%, 2% and 5% blending of SAF in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) initially for international flights with effect from 2027, 2028 and 2030, respectively https://sbi.com.in/.
Further, development of about 10,805-km Natural Gas Pipeline is under execution. With the completion of these pipelines, the national gas grid would be completed and would connect all major demand and supply centre in India https://www.conexpoconagg.com/.
This would ensure easy availability of natural gas across all regions and also help to achieve uniform economic and social progress.
As of 30 Sept 2024, operational Natural Gas Pipeline network was 24,945-km. fiinews.com
