Minister highlights growing need for investment in power sector

Power Minister Manohar Lal has urged States to focus on Nuclear based Power Plant, capacity of which is likely to grow to 20 GW by 2032 from 8GW presently https://www.conexpoconagg.com/.

He called on the States to consider setting up of Nuclear Power Plants at the sites where coal based thermal power plants have completed their life https://www.globaltenders.com/.

There is a growing need for investment in the power sector and also a need to improve the operational efficiencies of the utilities, he said, calling for listing of such utilities https://ted.europa.eu/en/.

He made the calls during a Conference of Power Ministers of States & UTs in New Delhi on 12 Nov https://www.bseindia.com/.

The Minister emphasized that States should also take up Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs) and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Renewable Energy rich areas which would help in meeting peak demand in non-solar hours and in better integration of RE resource in grid https://www.nseindia.com/.

He also stated that states should focus on PSP, capacity of which is to grow to 27 GW by 2032 from around 5GW at present https://sbi.com.in/.

He assured of the Ministry’s support for installation of BESS capacity of 12 GWh under the Viability Gap Funding Scheme, and urged the States to avoid levying any water-cess charges and other such charges on Power Generation https://www.commerce.gov.in/.

Pointing out that India has the largest synchronised grid, he underlined the need for robust transmission system for evacuation of the renewable power as per planned capacity http://powermin.nic.in.

A comprehensive plan is also needed for intra-state transmission for at least 10 years in line with ISTS transmission lines http://world-nuclear.org.

He told the States to identify transmission projects for Green Energy Corridors Phase-III and adopt revised guidelines for payment of compensation https://ins-india.org/.

Manohar Lala wants the States to leverage on technology in the Power Sector while adhering to necessary cybersecurity guidelines https://www.ibef.org/. Fiinews.com
