Minister highlights Norway’s green initiatives-circular economy

The Norwegian Minister of Trade & Industry Jan Christian Vestre has highlighted his country’s US$120 million investment in India’s solar power production, supporting the New Delhi Government’s initiatives for growing renewable energy sector and increasing green hydrogen production with the aim to reduce climate gas emissions.

He has also elaborated on the New Climate Investment Fund. “This fund is established for investments in the renewable energy sector for developing countries that has the potential to be an important contributor to India’s clean and bold energy.”

He especially mentioned importance of Climate Investment Fund for developing countries.

The Minister led a high-level business delegation accompanied by companies like Equinor, Aker, Scatec, Statkraft, DNV, Morrow Batteries, Kongsberg, Yara and Greenstat to India on 9 Feb 2023.

He also highlighted various initiatives of the Norwegian Government in renewable energy, green hydrogen, maritime and shipping cluster and circular economy.

Vestre, in India 8-9 Feb, also underscored the progress by both Governments on the India-Norway Task Force on Blue Economy and Energy at a forum organized on 9 Feb 2023 by Innovation Norway in collaboration with FICCI, India’s apex industry association.

Also speaking at the forum, Rupesh Agarwal, Co-chair FICCI RE CEOs Council, emphasized various agreements inked between Indian and Norwegian companies in the recent past.

“The visit of our friends from Norway marks an important milestone in the relationship between our countries since former Prime Minister Erna Solberg’s visit to India in 2019,” underlined Agarwal, also CEO of Azure Power, at the India-Norway Sustainability Forum.

“India has installed 40% of the 400 GW from renewable energy sources including hydrogen,” he added.

The visitors were also updated on the start-up space. “India has the third largest start-up ecosystem in the world, with over 107 unicorns as of September 2022,” said Agarwal. fiinews.com
