Projects: Minister Rai updates Lok Sabha on development in J&K

Land allotted to projects worth Rs.36,000cr in the Union Territory

Twenty-four projects are at advanced stage of progress as part of the Government initiatives for the development of Jammu and Kashmir, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai told Lok Sabha on 26 July 2022.

These projects are part of the 53 projects pertaining to 15 Ministries that are being implemented at a cost of Rs.58,477 crores in various sectors such as Roads, Power, Health, Education, Tourism, Agriculture, Skill Development among others.

Twenty-nine of these projects have been completed and substantially completed, he said.

Rai gave details of ongoing developments:

A Rs.28,400 crore Central Sector Scheme has been notified since 19 Feb 2021 for industrial development in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir has received investment applications of more than Rs.54,000 crore, out of which projects worth more than Rs.36,000 crore have been allotted industrial land.

Under languishing projects programme, 1,193 projects worth Rs.1,984 crores were completed, including 5 projects which were incomplete for more than 20 years, 15 projects for more than 15 years and 165 projects for more than 10 years.

The construction work of 17,601 km of road under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna has been completed up to March 2022, connecting 2,074 places.

The Banihal Tunnel and Chenani Nashri Tunnel has been completed and opened to traffic.

To connect Kashmir with train, Udhampur-Katra section, Banihal-Quazigund section and Quazigund-Baramulla section have been commissioned.

In last 2 years, power projects for about 3,000 MW capacity have been revived and progress is on track.

Three major irrigation projects viz Main Ravi canal (Rs.62 crore), 3rd stage of Tral lift irrigation scheme (Rs.45 crore) and Comprehensive Flood Management Plan of River Jhelum along with its Tributaries–Phase–I (Rs.399.29 crore) have been completed. fiinews.com
