Bajpai highlights potential of Rs.1,000cr orders for MSMEs-startups

SRIJAN offers has 16,000 items indigenisation to DPSUs

The Ministry of Defence’s Innovation for Defence Excellence (iDEX) is an important channel through which MSMEs and Start-ups could develop prototype for contracts worth Rs.1,000 crore, while special provisions have been made to directly procure Rs.100 crore of products and services from MSMEs, Anurag Bajpai, Joint Secretary, Defence Industries Production, told a conference organised by FICCI and the Central Government.

He also encouraged MSMEs an Start-ups to make use of the recent policy reforms and initiatives like 209 items of positive indigenisation list and SRIJAN portal where 16,000 items for indigenisation have been uploaded to help Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) and other services to indigenise.

The Department for Defence Production (DDP) has done Rs.1.5 crore start-up fundings while more will be considered on case-to-case basis, Bajpai told the Gujarat Defence MSMEs/Start-Ups Conference held 26 Nov 2021. The conference is to promote participation in the DefExpo 2022 to held 11-13 March in Gandhinagar.

Air Marshal (Retd.) RK Dhir noted that Gujarat is geared up for contributing to defence manufacturing and Indigenisation of defence equipment will be the major thrust.

He added that over the last few years delegations from Army Design Bureau, other directorates of Indian Army, Air Force and Navy have been visiting Gujarat to analyse the potential and capabilities of defence MSMEs and Start-ups and this conference is one step in the right direction to get all stakeholders to one platform to make further progress.

He ended his address on a positive note and mentioned that DefExpo 2022 is an important activity that could bring capabilities of Gujarat industries into the forefront.

Earlier Ravin Vyas, Chairman – FICCI Gujarat State Council’s Aerospace & Defence Sub Committee applauded the decision of Ministry to promote Gujarat as an important constituent to promote India as a defence manufacturing hub.

He was positive that MSMEs and Start-ups will make use of the current wave of policy reforms and initiatives rolled out by the Central Government and contribute immensely to Atmanirbhar Bharat and Raksha Utpadan. #manufacturing #investment #technology /fiinews.com
