Bapat calls for digital solutions for sustained building performance
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) in the Power Ministry plans to implement large scale energy efficiency programmes for the building sector which will be the country’s largest energy consumer in the coming years, Director General Abhay Bakre told a ‘Green Building Congress’ held 18-20 Nov 2021 by CII.
“Building footprint of India is set to witness a multi-fold jump in the coming years and it is important that we ensure that all the newer footprint is developed in a sustainable manner right from the design,” he said.
India’s commitment at COP 26 is clear and it would be the ‘decade of action’ for the bureau between now and next decade, he added.
CII’s Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) hosted the three-day virtual conference ‘Net Zero – Buildings & Built Environment’.
“Sustained performance of a building is vital when you look at the overall impact of a building. Digitalisation helps buildings in monitoring the performance of a building and it enables in taking necessary corrective measures,” stressed Shrikant Bapat, Country GM & MD, Johnson Controls (I) Pvt Ltd..
“I would say that Sustainability and digitalisation goes hand in hand. The Performance award winners have shown us that Green Buildings provide sustained energy and water savings over a period of time and I would urge the stakeholders to look at digital solutions for sustained building performance,” said Bapat.
“The Green Building Movement in India is growing from strength to strength,” added V Suresh, Chairman IGBC.
Given the global focus on Climate change and India’s commitment at COP 26, the theme of the Green Buildings Congress 2021 was aptly selected to address Net Zero buildings and built environment.
The Green Building Congress has received tremendous response with over 7,500 delegates attending the virtual conference.
Going forward, IGBC will work closely with all the stakeholders to advance net zero movement in the country and contribute immensely to the national priorities, he assured.
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) established IGBC in 2001, with a vision ‘to enable sustainable built environment for all’.
CII said it has been facilitating wider adoption of green building concepts by working closely with stakeholders in advancing the green building movement in the country.
With a Green Building footprint of 7.97 billion sq. ft, and with over 7,002 projects adopting CII-IGBC’s 30 rating systems, the Green Building Movement has been advancing at a rapid pace and transforming India into one of the global leaders in green built environment, CII said. #investment #projects #environment /fiinews.com
