Mills told to have real-time assessment of the changes in market place
The Steel Minister Ram Chandra Prasad Singh has called for aggressive product marketing and underlined the need to carry out macro and micro analysis of the parameters affecting the cost of production, stressing the need to “convert the adverse conditions into opportunities”.
The Minister directed the mills to involve themselves constantly with the dealers/distributors, agents, customers, etc. and work towards expanding their reach to the common man in small towns, cities and villages.
He directed mills under the Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) to have a system in place for real-time assessment of changes in the demand, supply, pricing trends and degree of competition among others for various products for arriving at the best suited marketing strategies.
He wants steel CPSEs to lay more emphasis on branding of the products and utilize all available advertising opportunities to popularise their products.
Singh called upon CPSEs to wholeheartedly contribute to the ongoing and future infrastructure projects of national importance and other important projects viz. Bharatmala, Sagarmala, Roads Projects, Railways dedicated freight corridors, dams construction and projects in the energy sector.
He also directed Public Sector Units operating mills to have a road map for cost reduction through improvement in energy consumption within the next six months.
Singh wants reduction in the coke rate, increase Pulverized Coal Injection (PCI) and increase use of pellets to reduce the consumption of coking coal to minimise the cost of production. He pointed out that these techno-economic parameters would be monitored on monthly basis through the Steel Dashboard.
He reviewed various parameters affecting the efficiency and productivity of the steel plants viz. BF Productivity, BF Coke Rate, BF PCI/CDI rate, Labour Productivity, Specific Energy Consumption, CO2 emission intensity, Water Consumption among others, so as to improve energy efficiency, reduce GHG emissions and minimise the water consumption.
Heads of steel CPSEs apprised the Minister on 21 Sept 2021 about marketing strategies in place for the domestic as well as for export market for their various products. #manufacturing #investment #energy #steel #water /fiinews.com
