IGGL gets Rs.5,559cr VGF for gas grid extension
The Government is providing Capital Grant of Rs.5,176 crore as Viability Gap Funding (VGF) to GAIL for the development of Jagdishpur-Haldia/Boakro-Dhamra Pipeline project to enhance the availability of natural gas across the country especially in the Eastern & North-Eastern regions.
Further, it is also providing VGF as Capital Grant (Rs.5,559 crore) to a Joint Venture company, namely Indradhanush Gas Grid Ltd (IGGL), which has been formed to extend the gas grid to each States of North-East and Sikkim, Petroleum Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan updated Rajya Sabha in a written reply on 17 Mar 2021.
These are the developments supporting the gas-based economy is contingent with creating necessary Gas infrastructure viz. LNG terminals, Nationwide Gas Grid and City Gas Distribution networks to increase the availability and accessibility of natural gas to public at large.
Further, Gas Trading Exchange has been set up for localized price discovery.
