Orders placed for 198-MW solar rooftop capacity
The Railway Energy Management Company Ltd (REMCL) has invited bids for 3-GW solar projects on vacant Railway land parcels and land parcels along the railway tracks.
The solar projects, besides supplying power to Railways at reduced tariff, will also protect the Railway land by the construction of a boundary wall along the track, said the Ministry of Railways on 31 Aug 2020.
About 51,000-hectare vacant land is now ready for installation of solar power plants on Railway’s vacant un-encroached land.
Meanwhile, orders for 198 MW solar rooftop capacity have been placed for 550 stations which are under execution as part of the Indian Railways objective to be self-sufficient in solar power and contribute to national green energy goals.
More than 960 stations have been solarized till now, said the Railways in a project update on 31 Aug 2020.
Also, the Indian Railways had recently organised a meet of leading solar power developers updating them on the “net-zero carbon emitter” programme before 2030.
By 2030, Indian Railways is set to produce solar energy of more than 33 billion units, up from the annual requirement of about 20 billion units. The plan is to install 20 GW of solar plants on vacant railway land by 2030.
Some of the Stations solarised are Varanasi, New Delhi, Old Delhi, Jaipur, Secunderabad, Kolkata, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Howrah etc. #green #solar #wind #electricity #railways #projects #tenders /fiinews.com
