Imphal to river route road suggested
Dredging has been completed in Brahmputra and Barak rivers, making it possible to transport people and consignments through waterways, Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said on 17 August 2020.
He has also suggested linking of Imphal with the river route, which is barely 50-60-km, for getting added benefits for the Manipur economy.
Gadkari was addressing the Manipur community at the laying of foundation stones for 13 highway projects and inauguration of a Road safety project in the North-Eastern State through video conference.
The projects involve a Road length of 316-km, with a construction value of about Rs.3,000 crore, paving the way for the development of Manipur, these roads will enhance better connectivity, convenience and economic growth in the State. A detailed project report for an elevated road in Imphal is being prepared and within 2-3 months which will be followed by its construction, he said.
Gadkari also asked the State Chief Minister N Biren Singh to expedite land acquisition and utility shifting work urgently, so that road projects could be hastened up.
He assured the release of Rs.250 crore of additional funds from the Central Road Fund as soon as the utilization certificate is received from the State.
He assured many new Road projects in Manipur in the near future.
Chief Minister Singh said pointed out that the need for a quality-road network in the hill-locked state with heavy rains.
