The Minister of State for Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh addressing at the inauguration of the 11th Nuclear Energy Conclave, in New Delhi on 18 October 2019.

A nuclear plant is coming up in the Gorakhpur of Haryana, previously having focused such plants in southern India, said Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Atomic Energy and Space.

The Government, he said, has also taken various steps to promote the scientific temper in the country, especially in the Department of Atomic Energy and Space.

To educate students and general public about the applications of nuclear energy, a second “Hall of Nuclear Energy” is being planned. The first is located at Pragati Maidan in Delhi.

The Government has diversified the applications of nuclear energy in various social fields including medicine and cancer care, he said inauguration of 11th Nuclear Energy Conclave held on 18 Oct 2019 in Delhi.
DAE Secretary and AEC Chairman Dr K N Vyas highlighted the “Long term vision for Nuclear Energy”, pointing out that climate change scenario has gone “more grimmer”.

“It is dangerous to the humanity, if we continue the business as usual,” he said, calling for reduction in the carbonisation.

Nuclear energy is an undeniable option to fight global warming, underlined Dr Vyas, pointing out that other sources such as solar and wind energy require large land and other technologies, being expensive in nature.

Dr Vyas said that India has gained large experience in construction and commissioning of reactors.

Dr Anil Kakodkar, former AEC chairman, said access to the imported uranium can accelerate the nuclear program size as well as large scale thorium deployment.

“We have now much lesser constraints to move ahead,” he added.

Dr Kakodhar said that given the large energy endowments in terms on thorium and solar energy, India can become a net exporter of clean and safe energy. fiinews.com
