SpiceJet has recently added to its fleet three B737-MAX 8 aircraft which are newly designed, state-of-art aircraft with the new fuel efficient engines (CFM LEAP 1B).

The aircraft, powered by CFM56 engines, have been delivered in May 2019, said BOC Aviation.

“We are pleased to extend our relationship with our long-standing customer, SpiceJet, and to support its expansion in the vibrant Indian market,” said Robert Martin, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of BOC Aviation.

“India has been one of the most rapidly growing major airline markets in the world and SpiceJet is well-placed to capitalise on this trend,” said Martin.

In 2015, the Gurugram-based airline had placed a US$2.2 billion order for 205 Boeing aircraft and another order US$1.7 billion order for 50 Bombardier Q400 planes.

SpiceJet operates a fleet of Boeing and Bombardier Q-400s that allow for greater efficiency in maintenance and to support its low-cost structure.

SpiceJet has increased its Boeing 737 fleet to 100 aircraft, 23 of which were added in the last one month. The fleet is made up of 168 Boeing 737s, 30 Bombardier Q-400s and two B737 freighters.

SpiceJet operates 575 daily flights on an average to 62 destinations, 53 domestic and nine international.

“Who could have thought that from the brink of closure in December 2015, Spicejet would have a 100-aircraft fleet in 2019,” its chairman and managing director Ajay Singh on induction of 100th plane in the fleet. fiinews.com
