Gas-link to Myanmar-Bangladesh planned

The government will invest Rs.7,000 crore on gas pipelines across the country and links to Myanmar through Bangladesh, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said.

“In the first phase Rs.70,000 crore will be invested on pipeline network across the country,” he told delegates at the 19th National Conference on Corrosion Control held in Bhubaneswar on 5 Dec 2018.

Plans are to extend the pipeline to Myanmar through Bangladesh, he said.

“Under this (gas) programme, pipelines are proposed to be constructed between Dhamra to Bangladesh and Siliguri to Bangladesh to export LNG according to the requirement of the neighbouring nations.

Pradhan also said Odisha needs a huge infrastructure to store, refine and transport natural gas to the doorsteps of the industry from Paradip, Dhamra and Gopalpur.

Plans are being contemplated to promote port-based industries in Odisha and other coastal states having natural ports.

Odisha will get a 1,700-km of pipeline network in first phase, he added. It is expected to cost Rs.4,500 crore.

A strategic oil reserve project is on the anvil at Chandikhole, in Odisha’s Jujpur district, said Pradhan.

He said the Paradip refinery would commence commercial production of polypropylene from this month.

Oil India’s Paradip crude handling facility is supplying to refineries at Paradip, Haladia, Barauni and Bangaigaon.

The Minister also announced new pipeline projects. South Eastern Regional Pipelines (SERPL) laying 1,212-km of pipeline from Paradip to Hyderabad with 4.5 million ton per annum (MMTA) capacity.

Work is progressing on 360-km Paradip-Dhamra-Haladia LNG pipeline and 345-km Paradip-Somanathpur-Haladia pipeline.

SERPL currently operates 1,570-km of crude oil and product pipeline with 19.35 MMTA capacity.

Pradhan has also called on conference delegates to chalk out a road-map for creation of better and advanced infrastructure for energy storage, refining and transportation with corrosion free metals.

The three-day conference was organized by National Corrosion Council of India, SERPL, Ccentral Electrochemical Research Institute and Indian Oil Corp. fiinews.com
