Tech-savvy DC upgrades for local supplier
Local retailer Future Group is investing between Rs.500 crore and Rs800 crore to create a nationwide food supply chain network of refrigerated trucks at d temperature-controlled distribution centres (DCs) to compete with international players in the Indian market.
“We are creating a whole new food distribution chain that will help our retail and brand distribution business,” said Kishore Biyani, founder and CEO of the group with investment planned over the next four years.
Each tech-savvy DC will be located within 200 km of each of its some 200 retail outlets, creating an efficient inventory management and supplies.
The investment comes ahead of “cut throat” competition expected from Walmart’s entry into the Indian market through a leading stake in Flipkart while Amazon is eyeing stakes in grocery retails.
