Market strategy for modernization of naval ships
The Norwegian company STADT AS’ market strategy is to be part of the modernization of Indian Naval Ships, a technology-laden programme in the coming years.
“We believe our technology will suit the naval ship programme for we have developed superior technology with stealth performance,” said Hallvard Lidset Slettevoll, CEO and Chairman of STADT at the Defence Security Equipment Industry exhibition held in London 12-15 September 2017.
Several nations, including India, are now planning to build naval ships with diesel-electric propulsion, he pointed out.
Keeping such highly important programmes in mind, STADT has developed Lean Propulsion Design, he disclosed.
The STADT Lean Propulsion has created an AC drive technology that has unique performance like Stealth noise free, extreme reliability and life-time, cost efficiency, low weight and compact footprint, he explained.
STADT has developed its 5th Generation of AC drives over several years, and gained substantial operational experience out of it.
These lean drives are installed at 150-MW power in 32 ships worldwide.
“The operational experiences are remarkable from the 32 ships. The failure rates are extremely low,” he said.
Electric ship propulsion and their drive systems are very crucial for a ship design, Slettevoll pointed out.
Comparatively, the previous technology was too complex.
“Now we are confident that we have the robust solution that will fit in to any kind of ships, and it is scalable technology,” he said.
Slettevoll is working on the Indian market especially the country’s large shipyards which are inducting new technologies in building high-capacity ships both for naval and commercial use. fii-news.com
