Rs.200bn greenfield project to 3,000-ha site.

A Rs.200 billon international airport off Delhi will be developed under a public-private partnership, with first terminal to be operational in five to six years.

An in-principle clearance has been granted for a greenfield airport on a 3,000-ha site at Jewar in Greater Noida, some 72 km from Delhi.

“Noida International Airport will cater to 30-50 million passengers per year over the next 10-15 years,” said Civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju.

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority has notified 3,000 hectares of land for airport to Indira Gandhi International airport at Delhi which is soon reaching its limits.

The IGI was designed to handled 62 million passenger traffic a year handled 57.7 million passengers in 2016-17.

Delhi is expecting 91 million passengers by 2020 and 109 million passengers by 2024.

The Jewar airport project on the outskirts of Greater Noida, off Delhi, has been in planning since 2002. fii-news.com
