Target set for biogas plants
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has set a target to build biogas plants to replace 2.19 million liquefied petroleum gas cooking cylinders in the fiscal year 2016-2017.
It is implementing a National Biogas and Manure Management Progamme (NBMMP) for setting up family type biogas plants across the country.
The plants, to be 1 cubic m to 6 cu m for supplying gas to 100,000 families in each state and union territory, would also provide processed bio-manure to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers.
This would create a saving of about 10,000 tonnes of urea equivalent, 450,000 tonnes carbon dioxide and 250,000 tonnes methane which would otherwise create carbon pollution, said MNRE.
The plants would be part of the “Integrated Energy Policy” of National Institution for Transforming India. fii-news.com
