Kenya seeks more direct flights
India has offered to cooperate with Kenya in shipbuilding industry, especially building of coast guard vessels through the expertise of Cochin Shipyard Ltd.
Making the offer, Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari noted the vessel requirements of the newly established Coast Guard of Kenya.
He made the offer during discussions with James Wainaina Macharia, the Kenyan Cabinet Secretary (Minister) Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development on 28 Nov 2018.
Gadkari invited the Kenyan Minister to visit India and see Cochin Shipyard expertise in building ships, which also including making fishing trawlers for deep sea fishing.
Gadkari highlighted the development of electric cars and vehicles in India which could have market in Kenya.
He also offered to encourage Indian car manufacturers to set up assembly plants in Kenya for the African market.
Macharia called for expansion of India-Kenya bilateral cooperation to sectors such as medical tourism and increasing connectivity with direct flights between the two countries.
The secretary noted India’s strength in two-wheeler manufacturing, and highlighted the investment opportunities for Indian companies in the big markets of Kenya and the rest of Africa.
