NHAI-Railways to share project cost

The Cabinet has approved Rs.996.75 crore Rail-cum-Road Bridge across Brahmaputra River near the existing Saraighat Bridge at Guwahati.

The project cost will be shared by NHAI and Ministry of Railways, said Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said on announcing the approval.

NHAI will entirely handle Rs.322 crore approaches and viaducts as part of the project.

The bridge would connect north bank of Assam to south bank — Guwahati across Brahmaputra.

Once the bridge is completed, it would provide seamless and strategic connectivity across river with heavy traffic at present of more than 75,000 Passenger Car Units, he added in a tweet. fiinews.com
