EVs in India considered for environmental benefits, says Patel; Mahindra to launch e-truck soon
New Jersey’s Triton Electric Vehicle will launch made in India Electric Semi Trucks by mid-2022, Founder and CEO Himanshu Patel told a PHDCCI webinar on ‘Electric Vehicles: Future of Transport’.
Also, Mahindra & Mahindra would soon launch an affordable electric tractor in the Indian market, added Dr Shankar Venugopal, M&M Vice President.makes the state-of-the-art Semi Truck with 300KWh battery & Hydrogen Cell stack.
Comparing the US and Indian EV markets, Patel noted that EVs in India were being considered for their environmental benefits while this environment-friendly vehicle are considered a luxury product in the United States.
Creation of charging infrastructure on the highways was essential for adoption of EVs in commercial transport, he stressed at the webinar on 24 Dec 2021.

Speaking on EV prospects, Dr Venugopal said he sees innovations taking place in transportation sector.
He informed the webinar that not only EVs but connected and autonomous vehicle and shared mobility would bring about a paradigm shift in transportation sector.
Among other speakers, Arindam Lahiri, CEO, Automobile Skills Development Council, underlined the importance of skill development for EV manufacturing in India and initiatives of his organisation in bridging the skill gaps.
The PLI schemes announced by the Government will go a long way in reducing the prices of Electric Vehicles due to localization thus making them affordable for Indian middle class, added Shamsher Dewan, Vice President & Group Head, ICRA Ltd.
