SAIL supplies over 50% steel for bridge

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi the Bogibeel bridge over the River Brahmaputra is a marvel of engineering and technology and is of immense strategic significance.

Dedicating to the bridge between Dibrugarh and Dhemaji districts to the nation, he said another five bridges over the river are in progress while three have been completed over the last four-and-a-half years.

Comparatively, three bridges were built over Brahmaputra over the last 60 years.

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has supplied around 35,400 metric tonnes of steel for the construction of Bogibeel Road-cum-Rail Bridge, a little more than 50% of the total quantity of steel supplied for the bridge.

SAIL has also supplied TMT rebars, plates and structural for the 4.94-km bridge, which has composite welded steel truss girders in its structures.

Earlier, SAIL had supplied 90% steel for the construction of the Dhola-Sadiyabridge, which is India’s longest bridge.

At 4.9 km, the Bogibeel is Asia’s second longest rail-cum-road bridge. It has a serviceable period of 120 years. fiinews.com
