MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH is keen on doing in-depth studies in India for its marine products, especially the development of inland waterways and introduction of fuel-efficient vessels.

“We need to understand the type of boats and barges will be built for the inland waterways for developing transportation network within the inland waterways,” said Alexander Tesch, director of Marine & Offshore at MTU Asia Pte Ltd.

Along with these studies, the German group is also looking for a right partner to make some if its fuel-efficient low emission engines for vessels under the Make in India initiative, he said at the International Maritime Defence Exhibition held 16-18 May 2017 in Singapore.

“The region has lot to offer by way of cost competitiveness, skilled talent as well as growing engineering and manufacturing capabilities.” he pointed out.

MTU will also consider sharing technology for making liquefied natural gas (LNG) fueled engines, which are rated highly on emission efficiency.

“We have LNG-fueled engine technology among other technologies and expertise which we can consider sharing with our Indian partner,” Muller said.

“Our expertise and knowhow comes from our global network,” he added.

MTU has long been a regular supplier for marine and ship engines in the Indian market. fii-news.com
