PM inaugurates Jharsuguda airport
Odisha state has been allocated Rs.370 crores for upgrading four airports as part of building connectivity and promote tourism.
Three airports at Jeypore in Koraput District, Rourkela in Sundargarh District and Utkela in Kalahandi District are being developed to provide connectivity to remote and far flung areas of the coastal state.
This information was made available as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a new airport in Jharsuguda, also known as the powerhouse of Odisha, and flagged off the UDAN flight on Jharsuguda-Raipur sector on 22 Sept 2018.
Airports Authority of India in collaboration with the Odisha government spent an estimated cost of Rs.210 crores Jharsuguda Airport. The state government contributed Rs.75 crores.
Spread across over 1027.5 acres of land, the development includes 4,000 sq m and capacity to handle A-320 type of aircraft.
