North Eastern Projects
Building roads in challenging environment.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoR&TH) is implementing 197 projects in the North Eastern States. The 4,320.95 kms of roads would cost Rs.37,691.05 Crore.
Also being implemented are 20 railway projects covering 13 new lines, 2 gauge conversions and 5 doublings.
The 2,624 km rail lines would cost Rs.52,030 Crore. As of March 2016, the projects have cost Rs.21,336 Crore.
An outlay of Rs.5,040 Crore has been provided for under 2016-17 for these projects and for the residual liabilities of some completed projects, said Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) on August 11, 2016.
Also under implementation is a Comprehensive Telecom Development Plan for North-Eastern Region, costing Rs.5,336.18 Crore.
Elsewhere, North Eastern Council (NEC) is implementing 715 various projects.
Ministry of DoNER is also providing funds for meeting gaps in infrastructure, subject to the availability of funds. An amount of
DoNER has released Rs.4,113.31 Crore for 608 Roads and Bridges under Non-lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) scheme. fii-news.com
